In the back of my mind I've contemplated the future possibilities of my Para LTC. A Novak x-treme duty adjustable rear sight is a definite, but, in the back of my mind, is a hard-chrome finish and maybe, just maybe a bob-tail.

I'm interested in the members' thoughts on the concept of bobtail (really useful for conceal? affect function?) and ideas for getting it done (who to send to?), etc.

Thanks for your input.

Well, the only reason the disease hasn't hit me, is because my insurance against such disease is not paid up, and I can't afford to get that sickness. I however, feign minor illnesses from time to time. I sure do have alot of goodies for that AR upper and lower when they get here. :dancingbananna:

Oh, I can't afford the illness. I have to slowly "steal from myself" over time. Kind of like Andy Duphrane in Shawshank carrying pieces of the wall of his cell out to the yard a little at a time. :)

ARs. I've said I don't have a need or a want for a black rifle, but the idea of an AR on a Texas hog hunt is starting to get stronger in the back of my mind.

I think I will order another one later on, but its gonna be an AR-10. Buddy of mine has one. HMMMMMMMMMMMM....nuff said. :dancingbananna:

Of course, I may just get a 6.8SPC upper for my AR-15. There ya go, now you got my disease flaring again. Gee Thanks John. You are an instigator you know that right? :hairpull:

I'm with Zack on this. Plus bobtails fit my hand better, they just feel right like they melt into my hand.

You should probably find someone with one and see how it feels to you.

I like the bobtail .. it does help with concealment if you use a iwb more than a owb i dont notice the missing metal cant say it fits my hand any better.. i would shoot one before you have one done just incase you dont like it ..

I like the general feel of the bobtail. I would highly recommend it.

As far as carry purposes go I prefer my DW Bobtail commander over my full framed Razorback RZ-10 (government size w/ flat backstrap)

I have to admit that the Bobtail feels better in hand too. If it weren't for my RZ being a limited edition gun I wouldn't have second thoughts about bobtailing that sucker.

But, as with the preference of arched vs. flat mainsprings the advice you are getting about try B4 U buy is sound advice indeed.

If you'd like to come over and try mine I have a little outdoor range set up and some free time this weekend only. It is supposed to be -18degrees with a windchill bringing it down to about -45. Please PM to let me know when to expect you, I am sure Snagglepuss would bring a few guns to try to since he lives in this neck of the woods too.

+1. I'm a big fan of the bobtail. It feels better, and carries better. On a range-only pistol I may or may not do it(for example,I'm not gonna spend the money to do it to my Taurus),but for ccw it is a must, for me at least.

Thanks guys. The LTC will do time at the range, but it's primary purpose will be home defense and carry (IWB).

Who would you recommend to do such a thing? I'm thinking that the hard chrome finish would be done at Tripp.

You might also check out mahovsky's for hard chroming, excellent prices and work and he's been around over 25 years. He did excellent work on a colt for me.

There are a number of places doing bobtail's, but I really couldn't recommend one over another as I do my own.

Hey Cap, what brand are you going to modify???
My FS Rock Island GI, Pappy

It was/is my second 1911 that i bought for the sole purpose of shooting the barrel of it and doing any and every mod i took a notion to.

The first round of mods went pretty good (for a rookie) taking his first 1911 baby steps

The top one in this pic is the one I have all apart at the moment.
I'm moving into a little deeper water now with the bobtail and dehorn/semi-melt.
I'm also getting rid of the GI sights.
Matter of fact, I got the new rear sight fitted and in place tonight.

After a year or two or three of playing with my Rock and learning how to and how not to, I might just get froggy and try and build a custom all by myowndarnself:eek:

as Jerry mentioned, this stuff is fun and rewarding.
and I'm diggin' it!
