Since i've been having hard time finding commander I want, and time I do have, been thinking about build my first 1911.

I want Commander sized, chambered in 45ACP(or 10mm possibly haven't dicided yet). Thats reliable for occasional carry.

Now I know that Fusion makes all most everything I need to build my own.
I can put together internal. But I understand that there are somethings that I'm better off let gunsmith deal with - Such as fitting of barrel, safety, and slide to frame fit. And someother important things like sear, disconnecter

But other then that, what should I know/consider about building your custom 1911???
I'm thinking about spending some time and money doing this...

Any input would be appriciated..

You can buy a Caspain frame and slide from browells and just deal with the insides I am sure I have enough extra parts to make one myself and probably will next year. The kart barrels you can fit yourself it is a kit. You may want to check it out.

Do you have link for Kart barrel?

What I'm thinking about doing is do this in steps.

Get frame/Slide, and get it fitted.
Get barrel and get that fitted.
Then get all internal stuff - trigger, sear, disconnector, safety, hammer.
Test fire, then sent it out for coating.

Fusion have commander kit - that include slide, frame, barrel, that are already fitted. I thought that would be a great place to start.
But I do like the fact Caspian have slide/frame thats SS for the price of Carbon steel Fusion makes(eventho it lacks certain feature like sight cuts and .250radius cut). And I REALLY like the costom Serial number option they have. SS frame and slide would allow me to polish the hell out of it, saving money on coating down the road.

By the way, would good commander size 1911 should have bull barrel(or bushingless design?) over standard bushing with FLGR or plug under barrel like normal 5" gun?

Check Brownells for the Kart EZ Fit Barrel ..

for my Taste i want a Bushed Barrel not a Bull . and a plug don;t waste your money on the FLGR

You could also Get the Slide and Frame and fit them yourself so while your doing that you can think on the rest of the items you want to go with

Get the EZ fit Barrel with all the guts and go to town building it

Call Kart directly and see if they have an ez-fit commander barrel. I don't think Brownell's or Midway carries their entire line.
