I bought myself a Springfield Armory 1911 9mm about six months ago, a "Loaded" model. To be honest the Springfield wasn't my first choice. I wanted to go with another Wilson gun, but I decided to go the cheaper route this time. Well,,,,, I haven't been please with the gun since day one. Today I sent the Springfield to Wilson Combat for a makeover.
New sights, new finish, new wood, new mag well, frame to slide fit work, internal work, mags, etc, etc,etc. The Springfield is a good gun, but after you've had Wilson Combat:notworthy: or Les Baer:nuts:, you want more than good. If my daughter will hold my hand and walk me through it I will post a picture when it comes back from surgery (6-8 weeks:bawling.

I purchased my first Wilson Combat this month and agree. I own a Stainless loaded in 40S&W, but I'm now thinking about sending to Accurail for a tighter slide to frame fit. My Springfield is my USPSA single stack gun and enjoy shooting, but no Wilson.

I would agree with you on that. I have an older loaded model that I purchased used and it's OK but it isn't as nice as my older Kimbers of the same era. Maybe I'll upgrade mine someday since I don't have a lot in it.

Yeah, Springfield are great "out of the box" guns, but if you want something really special, go with Wilson.

When I get the cash (currently at $125 now) im going to send my springer in for some work, a trigger job, new sear, extractor and a tightened frame to slide fit and a fitted brushing. I might even go as far as sending a S&A grip saftey and have them fit it. I don't really like the "speed-bump" grip safties on Springfields.

The thing that always brings me back to Springfield is there customer service. Any time I send a gun in they go above and beyond in taking care of any problems.

This brings forth the question that has been bugging me. Don't get me wrong, I love my SA Loaded Champion and have no intention, at the moment, of having anything done to it. But if I did decide to send it, say to Wilson to have it worked over, wouldn't that void my SA lifetime warranty?

They will cover any factory parts, but not anything Wilson does to the gun.

If you're like me, sometimes it is a good thing to have to send a gun back for repair, it's an excuse to upgrade parts:biglaugh:,,,,,,,,,, or even the whole gun:dancingbananna:!!!!!

Only if the work that Wilson does is the cause of the problem with the gun. If the upgrades are not the cause SA will still repair it free of charge. That goes for any gunsmith working on a SA.

Baby came home

It took 3 1/2 months, but I got my Springfield 9mm Target model back from Wilson Combat. The gun is born again. Fiber optic front sight, lapped slide, slide and frame fitted, tactical extended mag release, bead blasted, mag funnel, new wood, fitted slide release, 30 LPI front strap, 4 lb trigger,,,,, I'm sure I'm forgetting something. The main thing is the gun now runs. The gun now does everything it was suppose to do when it left Springfield, but didn't. Now the gun is a keeper, and no longer something I have to make excuses for. Tripp Research 10 round 9mm mags made the package complete and ready for the ESP division at IDPA matches.
