Well, it's time to get the hunting forum going!

Shotgun deer season opens tomorrow morning here in RI. After a very disappointing muzzleloading season ( 2 mis-fires and 1 dead oak:biglaugh:) I'm ready for a fresh start.

Hows the season(s) going for you all?

Sorry to hear about your disappointment.
I have 3 in the freezer so far...I may get to hunt this weekend (blackpowder) if I have time.
But I'm definately making some jerky out of what I have....tonight....because I been waiting for it all week. And it will still be Sunday before I get to eat it.

Regular firearm deer season in MI runs Nov 15-30. Black Powder deer season begins tomorrow, and of course I`ll be out. Black powder is all I hunt with anymore...even regular season. Just more challenge and satisfaction to it. 11 years ago I bought my first smokepole, and now I have 11 or 12 (can`t remember without looking). I`ve already got 1 big doe in the freezer (passed on several smaller bucks) and now it`s time to get a shot at the 10 point that has eluded everyone in the neighborhood so far. He was seen 2 days ago about 5:45 pm in the alfalfa field by my blind. Hopefully he`ll make the same mistake tomorrow and show his furry hide.

Well, I went out and got a 5 pointer tonight. I should have let him go but I was ticked off. 3 minutes before I shot him, I screwed up and hit my gun against a tree as I was swinging the gun around the tree to shoot his BIG Brother. Oh well....could be worse, like no shots at all.

Glad to see a hunting forum on this one. I do more reading than hunting & will be an encourager to all you young guys. I have shot my share & guess I am just too old to enjoy cold morning hunting. I do like it in the afternoon.

Folks hungry?

Well, I went road deer hunting this morning. Not in the usual sense...but trying to find evidence of the deer my son shot last night. It was snowing hard and he had shot a big doe from about 75 yards out. It ran another 60-70 yards and crossed the road before piling up in a heap just 20 yards into the woods off the road. He left the blind, walked across the field and followed the blood trail to where it laid across the road. He dragged the deer back to the ditch, then headed to get his truck which was 150 yards away in our small gravel pit. By the time he got to the end of the drive and to the road, he met a car heading East. Well, that car had stopped and 2 people got out and stole his deer. A neighbor had just gotten home and witnessed the whole thing. He met my son where the deer had been laying and told him to go after that car...they had stolen his deer. By the time my son had followed the tire tracks for 2 miles thru new snow on the road, the tracks disappeared from snowmobiles on the road. So, when my son called me last night, all angry and upset, I agreed that what had happened was frustrating and angering, but perhaps someone was out of work, short on money and really needed the meat....but it`s too bad that they didnt just wait the few minutes to ask....my son would have gladly given the deer to them. It`s not like this was a road kill...my sons footprints were there and there was blood everywhere from where the deer had died back out towards the road where he dragged it to. But, like I said.....apparently some folks were hungry.
