What does pinned and recessed mean when referenced with a revolver. What does it do? Is this a good thing to have?

only on older smiths it means the barrel is pinned in so it cant turn without pin removed..

Recessed means the case heads sit below the level of the cylinderface
Bud, Is this good, bad, or doesn't really matter. Thanks for the response.
Its Good and makes the older smiths worth more.. in reality it really doesnt matter.. but if you can find a P&R Older Smith in excellent shape jump on it
I was polishing up my guns today and noticed the my DW .44 mag had recessed chambers. Does that mean it is pinned too? Do the two always go together?

Thanks in advance Bud

I doubt if the Dan Wesson has a pinned barrel since they were user changeable.
Excellent point, I never thought of that. Thanks

No as said it wont if its a interchangeable barrel model
Bud, Can you clarify. I am not sure what you mean.

Thanks

No the barrel wont be pinned if its a interchangeable barrel model I have seen one DW that didn't have a interchangeable barrel i dont remember if it was pinned or not

The pin goes right threw the top of the barrel thread so the pin has to be knocked out before removing the barrel
I was just in the neighborhood and saw this thread. At any rate, a picture is worth a thousand words -- so --

Thanks very much
Years ago Dan Wesson offered a set. It came with a couple of different grips, and several interchangeable length barrels, all in one guncase. Great idea, but didn't catch on very well.

Recessed means the rear of the cylinder has been recessed for the rounds to sit flush with the face. Most skip that time consuming step now.
Great pic Frank thanks ..
Well, I guess mine is just recessed and not pinned. Thanks for all the posts, I now know what pinned and recessed means and I can ID it.
