This is a fairly quiet forum but would anyone like to make suggestions for a new model or two? 1911 only please. I have asked this on the other 1911 forum with great response and thought I would ask here as well. I know many of you visit both sights and that's OK too.

I like the idea of a lightweight cbob. Just like the current one but with a lightweight frame.

I have a couple of questions about the CBOB.
1) Why no CBOB in carbon steel?
2) I think other than the thumb safety there's no MIM in CBOB, why not replace it with a forged steel part and be able to make a claim of a "0-MIM" pistol? This pistol would still be 2/3 the price of the next least expensive no-MIM 1911 (Les Baer Concept pistols) and offer features that no one else does.
3) What's the deal with the blued extractor and bushing on a stainless gun? Can these parts be ordered hard-chromed?
Thanks.

Thanks for posting guy's. To answer your questions:

Blued guns are actually more expensive for us to make.

We are now using Stainless bushing and firing pin stop plates. The ejectors and extractors are carbon because they are more readily available.
we are looking at making the switch to no MIM but this is a big price change for us and STI has been good to us. Who knows though. You might get you wish.
We could custom coat your Cbob like the Valor if you like.

Actually Dave severns posted on another board that the thumb safety and hammer were mim. I already knew the thumb safety was an sti mim, but was not sure about the hammer as I did not look that close when I had a cbob 10mm. I do have a .45 cbob on layaway now.

The Sig 1911's have no mim and are priced in the same range as the dw's. The colts have I think 3 mim parts so that's one more than the dw's.

Not taking anything away from the dw's, they are still a very well made gun with great parts. Just setting the record straight. I do think the title of "no mim" would be good for you guys Keith.

Keith,to be honest the Valor is the model that I wanted. Black finish, night sights,no fcs. If you search my posts on 1911forum I actually said a black .45 RZ,but a flat-top is not a necessity. I'm sure I'll get a Valor when I finally get some pennies saved up,I just can't decide if I want it bobtailed or not. :)

But if we're selecting new models for 2009,what about another budget line like the Panther or Minor? Taurus is selling their PT1911 like ice cream cones at fat camp, can't DW get in on that action?

I can't build guns cheaper than they already are. My parts cost more than those other guns. I talked to CZ about outsourcing for a less expensive model, built the way we wanted it, but they said nothing doing. " Wrong image" they said and "wrong direction".

If you want me to custom build you a RZ in .45 I can but sorry I can't do the rib. I can't spare the machine time. I would just use the Valor slide. You can call or email me.

I think you guys are doing a great job at making a decent priced gun with great parts. I understand the market for cheaper stuff, but I personally think what DW has is worth the price difference.

Now THAT sounds like something for the future.

Keith, Don't stoop to lower models. The guns you make are such a value there is no need to hit the lower priced market.:notworthy:

I agree and am glad CZ nixed the lower end product. It might seem like a nice brass ring to build a bunch of what would essentially be knock-offs of well fitted, well made products. Corners would be cut to keep cost down and unless you were to limit their warranty more than your regular production they might tie you guys up with more comebacks. All that would do is serve to tarnish your reputation unnecassarily.

Keep on keepin' on as you are. Reopening the Custom shop and making yourself available for customer interaction is a much bigger step in the right direction toward the customer base (fans) that I see you guys hitting with sales.

That's my $.02 from one of your satisfied blood cells.
