Personallly if you want to have a shiny finish on your pistols I would recommend a Buffer Wheel. This takes off no metal just polishes, you can use either Fritiz, or Semi Chrome Polishing compound to get the finish you want. Always avoid a belt sander you can start with crous (sp.) cloth with is Blk paper to remove the coating on your pistol on a flat surface. Then it is a faily slow pocesss on the polishing wheel applying the Fritz on the wheel and the start the polishing process to your liking.

For those that don't know Blk Oxide is used only on Stainless guns.
Vic,I'll have to do my homework but I have a Kimber TLE with the black oxide finish, and it has a stainless frame and a carbon slide (I guess it's what they had handy when they put it together). But,it has the black oxide on the carbon and stainless steel.

I very highly recommend Mahovsky's metalife hard chrome finish. His pricing is VERY competitive at 135. for a complete semi auto and 145. if it has a chrome frame. It's the hardest finish out there and if you have him do it to a an aluminum frame it makes it something like 85 on the rockwell scale (going by memory but he can give you the correct number if I am wrong) but it makes it harder than steel. The ramp can be polished, etc. and it's an outstanding way to go if you want a pretty indestructive finish.
