A court martial on Wednesday acquitted a US Marine for his role in the deaths of 24 civilians in Haditha in Iraq in 2005, the sixth man to be exonerated in the affair, a military official said.
Lieutenant Andrew Grayson, 27, was declared "not guilty on all charges" by a jury, said a spokesman for the Camp Pendleton military base in southern California where the hearing started on May 28.

Grayson had been charged with making false statements and attempting to fraudulently separate from the Marine Corps. He was also charged with obstruction of justice, but the military judge dismissed this charge Tuesday....

The aquitals for the rest of these guys, including colonel Chessani could not come a minute too soon. In the good ol' times the reporter who lied about the whole thing, the "Times" who printed the lies and the armchair generals who incarcerated these boys to promote their own careers would be tried for sedition.

The charges agains Lt. Col. Chessani were dismissed yesterday morning. The gobnt has 72 hours to re-file the charges. Let's hope the bloodthirsty dogs that hounded this man and the other marines involved in this engagement have more pressing things on their minds this time around.

To re-hash the Hadifa engagement:

Marines do their job --> Local terrorists work with Times magazine to publish the "Hadifa massacre" story --> With elections ahead, a former marine and also a former subject of a congressional corruption investigation - Jack Murtha - sees an opportunity to score points with the democratic leadership and spearheads the effort to lynch the marines involved in the shootings --> Murtha becomes the head of the military appropriations subcommity and brings home RECORD earmarks (keep in mind: this guy was investigated for accepting kickbacks from local businesses that received pork from his earmarks in the budget some 20 years back). --> no evidence is found of any wrongdoing by the marines despite 65 (sixty five) investigators used to gather information for this case. --> charges dismissed against all the marines involved.

all I can say about this whole mess is God bless our troops and may Jack Murtha find that special place in hell.
