We are always cautioned to ease the slide of a 1911 pistol into battery when not chambering a round. But no similar restrictions are suggested when releasing the operating rod on an M1 Garand.
I think the Garand has a more powerful spring, and the bolt certainly travels a greater distance, so the impact of the Garand bolt must be much more punishing.
I'd like to hear some comments on this troublesome but trivial subject. :wavey:
