Is this OK?

I didn't see this specifically address in the "rules", so I'm going to ask. This comes about because of my reading another thread here about "over-moderation" on some forums.

I'm a fairly long time member of "another" 1911 forum and haven't had much problem with moderators, either personally or as a critique of the general job they do. However, there was one "policy" I did not agree with, and thought I'd adk how it will be viewed here.

My question concerns "negative" comments about a product you've purchased, company you've dealt with, etc. And also any "bad" private transaction you may have had with another forum member, through this forum "for sale" section.

I fully realize there are (at least) two sides to every story and those negative threads can degenerate into personal attacks. But, if we stick to the "facts", and allow fair rebuttal, what's the harm? We're all adults (hopefully) and can draw our own conclusions from internet info.

So, if I have a bad experience, can I tell about it on this forum?

Good shooting.....Rod.

There is a sticky for member transactions in the for sale section .. I see no problem with posting bad exp as long as its short and to the point and doesnt turn into a bash fest

Thanks, Bud. Now that you've said it, I remember seeing that stickie. But, of course, with my old man's CRS disease, I didn't remember it. :hairpull:

That covers transactions with other forum members, but if it's with a business that may or may not be represented on this forum, I'm assuming the same rules would apply, except post comments in the appropriate section.
yep that should be fine
Bud's just too quick for me.

If you have a problem or bad transaction post it in the appropriate section. Ther's not a problem with that.

When it becomes a problem is, once the message has been gotten accross, the person wants to troll that forum posting bad comments in multiple threads to keep hammering the company. Not saying you would do that but it happens. It's not bad to tell about a bad experience, transaction, etc. Where it becomes bad is if that person makes it their job to convince everyone else to stay away from that product/vendor. They can read your experience and make the decision for themselves.

Make sense?
I've got a touch of CRS myself.
I think that if its a bad transaction about a person in particular, that it should be sent to a moderator or admin before its posted. I was the target of a gentleman (and I use that term loosely) who states that I shafted him on a purchase. He PM'ed me, and I thought we had straitened out the discrepancies, and then the owner of the other forum asked me about it, and I explained it to him. I thought it was all taken care of, and the next day, I got slammed in an open forum. That guy only posted a total of 20 times, the 20th being the blast to me, and hasn't been back, and I have over 2500 posts on that forum.
I think personal comments such as that need to be run by administration before its posted. It only takes on mad person to really wreak havoc on someone's reputation. And that mad person can really twist up the facts to make him/her feel justified in their rant.

I forget, but what is CRS again?

I remember that as well. I was - astonished - that you were hung out to dry like that.

Jerry, that makes perfect sense. There's no need to go on a vendetta against a person or company. Just explain the facts of the matter from your point of view. Everyone knows there's two sides to every story.
Yep, I think that's fair.

That was an abridged version, and I only defended it enough to clear my name, it was pretty ugly, and yes I felt that I was hung out to dry pretty hard.

Thats the only thing I would be leary of Jerry.

I'm in no way bitter or upset about what happened, I'm better than that, just don't want it to happen to someone else.
Don't worry, we will try to be fair.
I don't remember the specifics but the tone of this site is far different and far superior
to that other site...no comparison...and here we have my favorite contributors from
that other site too boot...so this is the best of all worlds to me....Blessings...GW
Thank you Jorge. It's the fine members that set the tone here.
I know the forum Rod's talking about...he IS the problem child there!
