At this time I don't have anything like that set up. I have actually hated the idea of asking for money, but if people are interested in that we might take a look at it. If anyone thinks it's a good idea, for forum hosting expenses, please post here.

Don't mean to compare here to "the other 1911 forum", but when I hit my "1911'th post" (and became a Senior member)I felt compelled to give back to the forum that I had spent soooooo much time on. I'm enjoying this one even more than the other and feel the need to give here to keep this one running so great. The other wasn't accepting donations and I still feel like a "thief" by stealing from the forum and not being able to give back. This forum is set up better than others and I DO like the "Christmas" look. I really like the Humor section. Pretty much I like this one better than the others and spend a lot more time here than I thought I would. The other has a lot more "reloading" posts, but it has been on the net for years. When I sign on my computer, I hit this one first, the AR forums 2cnd. Seems like the only time I spend at the Other is answering previous e-mails. Keep up the great work. Mods are doing a great job. Don't see any flames wars or derrogatory comments. I've seen some "others" come over here and none of the "argue makers" yet. Tracy

Thanks for the kind words Tracy and primers. I'm not real familiar with how it's usually done so let me check into it for a while. I have it covered for the next 6 months anyway so there is time to decide on something like that.

Hipefully we can keep it comfortable here, tracy. So far it seems like a really great bunch of people are showing up.

I think what happens at the "big" boards, at least some of them, is that when they get lots of traffic they sell links and that covers the operating costs.

Jerry, If you can operate the forum from the income of links, I guess that's the way to go. It's just my opinion (for what it's worth) that links at the top of the page are a little tacky looking. But every forum does it. I really like the Christmas look to the top of the page, and was hoping that for every season or holiday you might come up with something different. It gives the page a clean, uncluttered appearance. If you had enough members giving support, maybe this forum wouldn't have to go the same direction as the others.

Whatever you decide I will support 100%.

Thanks primers, and I was just stating what the others appear to be doing. Even if I wanted to we are not big enough, with enough traffic, to be able to sell links. I didn't start this as a business and really don't want to turn it into one, this is for fun, relaxation and visiting with good people of similar interests.

You are not off base and I appreciate the input. I really do like the idea of it running on it's on and hopefully we will continue our current direction. Donations for the running of a forum are really not a bad idea at all really, as long as people do not seem forced or pushed toward it and it all goes toward the operation of the board.

I will do my best on the board styles. One of the mods before suggested accepting submissions from talented members for a header for the board, that's not a bad idea to have even several member created headers that could be rotated so as not to always have the same look.

Thanks again primers and the rest of you. I can't tell you guys how good it makes me feel to know people appreciate the forum.

I added a donate link in the Navbar where the other links are. I appreciate those that suggested it and I also appreciate their willingness to donate. Those that donate will get a pistol rank like the mods and admin have (haven't decided what it will say yet) and be able to enter a custom description. This Is NOT meant as any kind of pressure to donate and if you don't spend a lot of time here or just don't want to donate then I suggest you don't as this is not any kind of push for money. It WILL go into a special account which will be used for only upkeep of the forum such as hosting, domain registration, etc. Please click on "special instructions to the merchant" and enter in your 1911auto id.
