I have the S&W 1911pd "gunsite" commander length. It so far has been flawless out of the box with everything I have fed it. I am looking for and trying to decide on a new holster to carry it. I was a bit concerned about the external extractor after hearing about Kimber's plethora of problems. But it seems like Smith must have gotten it right. I am very happy with it.

I could never figure out why Kimber seemed to be having problems with the external extractor. An external extractor is used on many designs with no problem. It must have had something to do with the unique design of Kimber's external extractor. (And I've also heard of folks who were completely satisfied with Kimber's external extractor.)

The 109 Talo Commander Is The Best 1911 I Have Fired For Under $1500. I Picked Mine Off Of The Shelf At Camfours, Only 100 Were Made. I Have About 1100 Rnds Thru Mine, Feeds Everything. I Carry It In A Sparks Summer Special Or Comp-tac Infidel Iwb. I Use Wilson Or Cobramags From Tripp. It Runs 100%

I have the PD commander. Fantastic weapon with no failures or bobbles of any kind. I bobtailed the grip and am waiting for my Andrews MacDaniel II to arrive. Probably the best factory trigger I have experienced: 4.25 lbs with a nice break, perfect for ccw, I will not be sending it out for a trigger job. I am amazed at how light that scandium frame is...really amazing. $819 delivered through Bud's
