CCW, Shall Issue?

Here in Michigan we are fortunate enough to be a Shall Issue State. And the process is, for the most part, very easy. I got my CCW within 3 weeks of completing the application. And the certification process prior to submitting the application was very simple. At least for me in my locale, we have several NRA CCW instructors who hold classes all the time, nearly monthly, and our Sheriff is very supportive. How is it for the rest of you?

Fl is shall issue and expanded Castle Doctrine. I think it took me about six weeks to get my permit but that was a few years ago, don't know the current time frame. Pretty straight forward process here although in some ways I wish the training requirements were a little higher. In some ways it's almost too easy I think, I've had to explain the facts of concealed life to several people who had permits but really didn't know the laws well. There is also no range or shooting test required here although good instructors do tend to include it. I got mine simply because I was an honorably discharged vet!

I will also say that while applying I did need to contact the office that handles the permits and they were the most professional and courteous govt. employees I have ever dealt with!
Texas is Shall Issue.
In the rural area where I live the LEO are very supportive of CC. Houston DA (Harris County) is not at all in favor of it. I understand there are a few small pockets of resistance to it in the DFW area. Across the board in Texas, if you are Joe Goodguy or Lucie Cleanrecord you will have no trouble.
The Coarse is 10 hr minimum w/ a written test & shooting proficiency.
I have preped SEVERAL new shooters & none had a problem w/ the test or proficiency.
North Carolina is a shall issue state too.
Nevada and Utah are also shall issue rules. In Nevada it took three months to get the ccw; that included certification on the hand gun that you want to carry, the model caliber and serial number are printed in the permit. You can have as much as 24 handguns in your permit. In Utah it took also three months to get the permit and no certification needed for your carry firearms. Nevada is good in 17 states before we allowed reciprocity this year, I have not seen the latest listing while Utah permit is good in 31 states but you cannot carry inside churches.
BTW except in Boulder and North Las Vegas cities, open carry and carrying loaded hanguns inside the car are allowed in Nevada. Rifles need to be unloaded.
Illinois is a Big F*** You. Nobody can carry except for LEO's and in some instances armed security.
Depends on counties in Michigan .. Wayne took a month and 14 days for mine but that was short most people go 3-4 months
Indiana is shall issue with a lifetime option. We are also a Castle Doctine state. It is very easy to get a permit here. There is no certification process. As long as you are not a convicted felon and don't have a history of mental illness, you can get a permit. I had to wait about 6 weeks for my permit to come which is normal.
Texas also has a Castle Doctirne. TOO bad I am stuck in NC
Iowa is a "May Issue" state. You have to justify why you want to carry with your local sheriff, who then has the final say on if you get a permit and when and where it's valid.

I happen to have a good sheriff who didn't put any limitations on my CCW, but I have friends (in other counties) who are only allowed to carry between 6:00 AM and 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM. That's when they carry money to their store and back home from the store. Now how ridiculous is that?

Iowa recognizes no other state permits than it's own. Thankfully, Arizona honors Iowa's CCW so I can carry at both of my residences.

I feel your pain ZeroTA. :brave:

I hate to even travel in that state, if I'm transporting any type of firearm. (Gun and ammunition in separate locked containers, locked in trunk.) :hairpull:
Gun shows East of the river have lost their appeal to me. I recently heard they are closing down the Caseyville gun club via "eminent domain" for some BS reasons that have existed for decades - but suddenly NOW are a problem?

Also heard that Cook County is making progress toward a TOTAL BAN on ALL firearms? Any truth to that?

I thank my lucky stars that the MO legislature finally woke up three years ago, and passed Shall Issue in this state. And the icing on the cake was Castle Doctrine just this year.
:flag:

"Move West young man...."
Missouri is a "Shall Issue", got the Castle Doctrine in last year's legislature, and Missouri recognizes CCW permits from every state that issues them. Missouri does not issue non-resident permits like Florida and others.
Arkansas is a shall issue. Training consists of class time and shooting profiency. Neither of which are to demanding. Took me about 14 weeks to receive my permit due to the backlog with background checks.
Last count our permit is recognized by 30 states.
VA is not too bad, PA was better, shall issue with no training requirement, no finger printing, and I had mine in the mail in 3 days. IIRC it cost $30 for 5 years.

In VA it is shall issue, cost is $50.00 max per state law, ease of application varies on county/city, you do need to show firearms proficiency by either NRA training, other class, hunting license, Military etc. etc. I had mine in 13 days.

Yep, and since arkansas changed the rules they added a bunch as you note. I already had a florida one, which covers a few more, and I went with it at the time because it covered more states, was cheaper and took my dd214 as my training. If I were to get one now I would probably just get the arkansas since the last batch of states was added.
MS is a shall issue and we also have the Castle Doctrine.
$125.00 initial and $75.00 renewals (4 years).
Az is a shall issue and we have the Castle Doctrine working.I think renewals are only 65.00 here.
Virginia Beach, Va., simple enough. If you can own a weapon a permit is guaranteed!!!!

I have had mine since 1989 when you had to go before a judge in court and explain why you needed a concealed weapons permit. I had my FFL and ran a business and my neighbor was Chief of Police so I really did not have a problem on that one!!!
I feel a test should be made for all CCP holders , I know in some states, anyone can get one. In Az. you have a written test and a shooting test and the class was 8 hours now it is 4, I heard.
