I'm thinking about building a few AR-15's from kits. Are there any lower receiver blanks that I should stay away from, ie garbage or weak? Thanks, David.

I would make sure that it is a forged receiver. A friend of mine has been building AR's on Superior Arms recievers and likes them.

He said that he is paying under $100 each for them.

I have an AR that was built on an Eagle upper and lower and it's been a good gun.

I've heard good reports on LMT, Rock River, and Noveske.

The AR that I'll be getting in the next couple of months will have DoubleStar lower. Heard/read good things about them. Tracy

I haven't heard anything bad about Double Star lowers either....Charles Daly AR's are built on them. Also, I have several Double Star 30 round mags that work just fine.

I'd be wary of the "plastic" lowers...thats about all I can think of right off the top of my head.

It'll be built by "BlackRifleWorks" in Raleigh NC. About 90 mins away from me. To be able to do a face to face means alot to me for my first one. Tracy

I once had a terrific AR with a lower made by Pac West Arms. I don't know if they are still in business.

Don't blame you one bit...

I been kicking around the idea of building me one myself...they are a simple design....the only moving parts are the bolt, carrier, and trigger. Pretty much all you gotta worry about is the fit between the upper and lower, the barrel and receiver, and make sure there are no gas leaks. I like to tinker anyway.

You don't have to pay the 11% tax thats charged on complete guns...and then theres the $$$ you save by shopping around for good deals.

What ever lower receiver you decide on, I would seriously consider installing a RRA NM trigger group in it. Out of the few AR's that I have fired/owned/fondled, my RRA definately has the best trigger. Good luck, and have fun with your build.
