LAS VEGAS (Associated Press) -- Assailants shot six young people Tuesday at a school bus stop, wounding two critically, in a midday attack that followed a fight over a high school girl, authorities said.
School police arrested three teenagers in the fight hours before the shooting in a working class neighborhood of northeast Las Vegas, Sheriff Doug Gillespie said. Investigators were still seeking two gunmen, who were believed to have fled on foot.
An 18-year-old man was in critical condition and a 17-year-old boy was upgraded to serious condition, both with gunshots to the torso, said Cheryl Persinger, a University Medical Center spokeswoman.
Four people, including at least two boys and a girl who are under 18, were treated for gunshot injuries to their arms and legs and released, she said. All four are students at Mojave High School, Gillespie said.
Authorities would not release any other information about the two victims who were still hospitalized late Tuesday.
Investigators initially looked into the possibility of gang involvement, but Gillespie said it appeared the shootings were the second stage of a confrontation over a girl.
Gillespie called the bus stop shooting "a carryover from what took place. This is not a random act."
The shooting occurred just before 2 p.m., a couple of blocks from two elementary schools. Both were locked down temporarily but reopened in about an hour, district spokesman Michael Rodriguez said.
Mojave had some 2,300 students last year, about evenly divided among blacks, whites and Hispanics, according to district materials.
Archie Gorai, 22, who lives about a block from the site of the shooting, said he heard about eight gunshots while he was wrapping Christmas presents at his home.
"I told my wife it was gunshots. She thought it was firecrackers," Gorai said.

You got that right , They need to understand about Dear Jody. So young and a waste of lifes. It never even came to mind when I was in high school, to even fight over a girl I would just move on to greener pastures.

Gee,I thought the way to a girl's heart was to kill your competition.

Chumps like this ruin it for the rest of us. I hope they end up with a 230 grain cranial lead injection.

"the shootings were the second stage of a confrontation over a girl"

I want to know what kind of idiot would ruin his life over a high school girl
Man have you ever got that right. I had enough other interests in high school that fighting over a girl was the last thing any of us would do. Heck, we mostly all joked together about passing them around between us. It was a lot more fun.

When I was in High School, if the girl was bad enough to mess around to cause an argument, she was already damaged goods, and was in no way worth ruining my life over. I'm glad we weren't "that smart" when we were kids. You know that generation is "so much smarter" than we ever were. I think all this sensitivity training is making our kids more violent. and less compassionate.

Heck, when I was in high school all the girls wore petticoats, and we were too bashful to even talk to one of 'em.:biglaugh:

But really, kids now-a-days are exposed to so much more that we ever were. It's really difficult to figure out what really makes them tic.

Just last week, my 16 year old grand-daughter was fired from her job at the Subway for giving away 'free food'. When she got home(at 11 PM - Waaaay too late to be workin' a 16 yr old in my book!) and told her parents, they had sympathy for her and expected her to sulk a while.

But not so fast there pardner... After 20 min or so she came down stairs and called her boss and read him the riot act. She told him that he was a thief and a bad person for hiring illegal aliens and that her co-worker actually stole some food and that all she did was give the 'company discount' to some of her friends.

She listened for a while then hung up. She then turned on her heel and said to her mom, "I got my job back and I got a raise!"

Now I never had that kind of moxie when I was 16!

It's a whole different world out there guys.
