I'm new to the 1911 world and my first purchase was a Ruger SR1911 CMD. I want to practice with what I shoot and defensive 45 rounds are hard to get around here and what I can find is too expensive to practice with. I can find plenty of the Winchester white box fmj 230 grain and my Ruger loves this round. So in your opinion, how would this round work as a daily carry round? I don't want to carry reloads. Thanks.

You will get varied answers. I carry alloy framed commander sized 1911's
    4 to 4 1/4 inch barrels plus a 3
Inch 1911. There are many fine
Ammo choices but I like to carry Hornady Critical Defense
185 grain hollow points. Some like 220 to 230 hollow points.
Since my carry 1911's are light
Alloy framed pistols I stay away from +P rounds. I am not sure of the percentage but some carry 230 grain full metal jacket rounds.

We you do decide what ammo you will carry be sure to run
Plenty through your pistol and ensure you don't have any FTF or FTE issues.

    You will get different opinions.

I would not carry WWB as defensive ammo. FMJ doesn't expand like HP ammo and you might have a problem if it goes though your target and hits someone else.

I echo Super Trucker for the exact same reasons. When I worked for Brink's we were issued only HP rounds. The company wanted to be sure the bullet stopped when it encountered the perp and no one else.

I wouldn't carry the WWB for defense either.
I prefer either Hornady Critical Duty/Defense or Speer Gold Dots.
Practice as much as you can with the WWB (for economy) and then run a mag or two with your carry ammo each session to verify it feeds OK
Also to make sure you are familiar with its feel.

I do that, too, Gtracer. In fact, this past weekend my son and I put 600 FMJ .45 ACP rounds downrange. We had an assortment of brands, but I also put 20 rounds of Remington Ultimate Defense 230 gr through my Remington R1 just for good measure.

You may want to consider the internet for your ammo needs. I don't know if leaving a link to a couple that I deal with is okay on the open forum. Years ago I found that it is cheaper and easier to order what you want and it arrives at your door a few days later.
